The Easter vacation this year was an 10 day long trip, spanning eight countries, five of them which we’ve never cached in before.
A more detailed report for each day of the trip can be found in separate blog posts, which you eventually will find in the list at the bottom of this article.
This year we rented a car, to make it easier to visit all the countries. You can read about how we decided on our route, and how we planned this trip in our blog series about trip planning (part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5).
We started by spending a full day traveling from Norway to Madrid. Then we drove to Portugal, before we continued to Tarifa. We took the ferry from Tarifa (without the car) to Tangier, Morocco, and spent a day there. From Tarifa, we drove to Gibraltar, and then further into the country. From here, we were supposed to find a couple power trails, including hundreds of mystery caches. But that didn’t happen.
The roads we were supposed to drive on, was not suitable during heavy rain. So when the weather started to turn bad, and the forecast showed lots of rain, we decided to scrap the rest of the plan. With some help from back home (thanks, AnetteSylvia!), we managed to find a new power trail to visit – in Southern France. And since we decided to drive in that direction, we decided to do a quick stop in Andorra as well, to get another new country. So we spent a day mostly driving, from Southern Spain to Southern France, through Andorra. then we spent 37 hours caching in France, before we headed back towards Spain, and eventually Madrid.
All in all, we’re very pleased with the result! The weather turned out to be really bad in Spain (the forecast was right), and it was sunny and nice in France.
