An early start

We had heard rumors about how crowded the Keflavik airport was, and that we would need at least three hours to make sure we didn’t miss our flight. So we got up early, returned the rental, found the cache we had to give up when arriving yesterday, and then went straight through both bag drop and security without waiting more than a couple minutes. I guess we arrived at the perfect time, because it was crowded after security…

Let’s go!

After arriving safely in Boston, we anticipated spending more than an hour to get through immigration and customs. We didn’t, probably took less than 10 minutes, and that was only because we had to wait for the bags to catch up with us.

We went to pick up the car, and was a bit surprised to see how poor the Ultimate Selection Hertz was supposed to have was. We had the massive amount of two cars to choose from in the Five Star Ultimate Selection. We loaded everything up, and then we were on our way! Finally!

Gathering states

The main priority the first days of this trip, was to find caches in all of the states we were missing in the lower 48. So we headed straight towards Rhode Island, stopping only at a couple caches along the way.

We didn’t spend much time in Rhode Island, before we continued to Connecticut. We had a short (okay, they’re never as short as we want them to be) stop at Walmart to get some supplies, and a local phone number (way cheaper than roaming).

After getting back into Massachusetts, we visited Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg. And yes, only because of the name.

Time to head north

We still had a long way to drive to our hotel in Dover, NH. And we also had a couple detours to do. So we only stopped at a couple very easily accessible caches along the way north towards Maine.

We spent just enough time in Maine to find the two caches at the Welcome Center (but we did spend a whole lot of time in a Maine registered car!), before we continued towards the last detour of the day. A webcam cache.

Screenshots are hard

Webcam caches are a lot easier now that we have smart phones. But for some reason (heat and humidity?), I had a really hard time taking a screenshot of the webcam on my phone. The solution was to take a photo of it, so we at least had the webcam photo. Eventually I also managed to get the screenshot to save.

We arrived at the hotel quite late, after a long day of travel. A good thing the jet lag is working with us when traveling in this direction 😉
