Early up

We once again left the hotel before 7am. Probably a lot earlier than most people do on their vacations. We didn’t have much on the plan for the first part of the day, and only stopped at one cache before we got to the virtual GC5E6A Quick Trip Off 58. The town of Boron was almost empty, and they had another flight museum we didn’t get to visit due to restrictive opening hours :/

Bottles everywhere

The next stop after the caches in Boron, was GC2C4PW Route 66 Roadside Icons – Oro Grande. Sadly the Bottle Tree Ranch was closed, but at least we got to enjoy what we could see from the outside. Very cool place! Hope the ranch get to live on indefinitely.

Too early this time

The last time we visited the Route 66 Museum was a failure. We arrived one minute before closing time, hit the curb and ended up with a flat tire and a long detour to the closest major airport. We made it to the parking with all tires intact – but we were too early! After a lot of back and forth, we decided to take a drive, and come back. So we finally got to visit this tiny museum 😛

They’re still there

After another stop on Route 66, at GC2T5EA Historic Cliff House, we decided to stop at the Bagdad Café. Last year, we placed a couple stickers here – so we had to check if they were still there. And both of them were exactly where we put them 😀

Back on Route 66

We’ve found caches in the Route 66 trail before, so this year we continued from GC2JX9E 041-Route 66. The weather was great, and hot, and the road just as lonely as we wanted it to be! The perfect road for a power trail like this!

The caches was easy enough to find, and the shoulder more than wide enough to park on. Only one DNF, and lots of finds! We had a quick food break in Ludlow – which was full of muggles! We also made sure to stop by Roy’s, to double check if they had gas (if we need it the next day).

Familiar roads

We’ve driven the road between Amboy and Twentynine Palms several times before, so we were back on familiar roads. It didn’t take long before the sunset was over, and we were back to driving in the darkness – which we did here last year as well.

We made it to the hotel before it got too late, and even managed to find a cache in the hotel parking lot – GC4T7KN Geo-Tax and, glad to pay it.
