Geocaching in Tallinn and Helsinki

In late October/November we went to Tallinn and Helsinki for a week long caching trip.

We decided to host meet and greet events in both cities on our first day there. We thought that could be a nice way to meet some local cachers and hopefully get some hints on nice caches to get. And it worked! In Tallinn the cacher algaja took us to several caches before driving us back to the hotel. And in Helsinki we joined a group of cachers on a “spoiler-tour”.

We walked a lot in Tallinn, over 20km the first day! We alos went outside the city and visited the Estonian cacher jpbarr, who’s the man behind the Estonian Geocoin. After three and a half day in Tallinn we found a total of 31 caches. The caches varied and so did the hiding spots, some really sneaky and creative hides! Many favorite points awarded!

After a short ferry ride we arrived in Helsinki. We had some hours before the event started, so we decided to go get as many cache types as we could, with some help at the event we managed to get 5 different types, which is one more than our previous record.

We did a lot of walking in Helsinki too, but we also used the tram a bit. We found a lot of clever and cool caches, I’m really glad I have lots of favorite points available!

On the event, and in several of the logs, we were told that the fortress island Suomenlinna was a nice place to go. So we did. Even though the island was crowded with muggles we managed to find all the traditional caches on the island, except from the ones that were disabled. A lot of sneaky hides, some which we had to work hard to get to! Favorite point awarded to almost all of them!

The total for Finland is 41 caches, which means in total we managed to find 72 caches on our trip this time.

We’ve had a real great trip, and we bring back many new ideas for caches back home! A caching trip to both Tallinn and Helsinki is highly recommended!

So, Aitah aarde eest! / Kiitos kätköstä!
